12 people are tragically killed in an El Salvador football match stampede.

After a horrible occurrence happened last Saturday during a football game at the stadium in the capital of El Salvador, at least 12 people have perished and several more have been hurt.

Initial reports state that the sad situation occurred because too many tickets were sold and fake ones were distributed for the match between Alianza and FAS at Cuscatlán Stadium.

According to the National Civil Police, the incident, which included about 500 people, occurred in a section of the stadium where tickets had been oversold. Salvador’s Minister of Health, Francisco Alabi, told the public in a statement that medical professionals responded quickly to treat the injured. According to Francisco Alabi, “about 90 people, including minors, are currently receiving treatment, with the majority being in stable condition.”

Nayib Bukele, the president, has directed the national police and the attorney general’s office to undertake a thorough inquiry into the incident and produce a comprehensive report. In addition, according to Nayib Bukele, all parties involved—including the stadium management—should be subject to an investigation, and anyone found culpable should face severe penalties. The National Civil Police of El Salvador’s video footage showed a large number of ambulances parked outside the stadium as medical personnel hurried to treat the injured.
