The town of Herndon, located in Virginia, United States (US), has chosen to commemorate Pakistan’s Independence Day on August 14, 2023. This decision serves as a significant gesture to acknowledge the noteworthy contributions made by Pakistani-American residents within the community.
Naila Alam, a member of the City Council, shared this announcement with Pakistan’s Ambassador to the US, Masood Khan, on Friday. The Mayor of Herndon, Sheila A. Olem, formally endorsed the declaration, officially marking the observance of Pakistan’s upcoming Independence Day.
Ambassador Masood commended Naila’s dedication, emphasizing that this celebration not only strengthens the ties between Pakistan and the US but also raises awareness about Pakistan within the local community. He emphasized the significance of fostering the relationship between the two nations and acknowledged the pivotal role played by the Pakistani-American community in achieving this goal.

Naila expressed her honor at being elected as the City Council Member twice and conveyed her delight at the decision, which truly recognizes the contributions of Pakistani-Americans in Herndon.
The official declaration highlights Herndon’s pride in its Pakistani-American residents, stating, “The Town of Herndon greatly values its Pakistani American residents and their many contributions. On this day, we not only celebrate Pakistan’s 76 years of independence but also encourage everyone to delve deeper into Pakistan’s rich history and culture.”
