Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan has moved the Islamabad High Court (IHC) seeking bail in the missing cypher case. This comes two days after a special court rejected his bail plea. Imran Khan, a former prime minister, is currently in Attock Jail.
In his bail application filed through his lawyer Barrister Salman Safdar, Imran Khan claims that the prosecution filed a malicious and fabricated case. He argues that the special court, designated to hear cases related to the Official Secrets Act, “completely ignored several of the prosecution’s irregularities and contradictions.”

The special court had previously stated in a written judgment that there is “irrefutable evidence” against Imran Khan and PTI leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi connecting them to the missing cypher case. The court noted that there are “sufficient incriminating evidence” on record to connect the accused with the case.
Despite expressing disappointment at the order, Imran Khan’s legal team announced their intention to challenge it in the high court.
The missing cypher case revolves around Imran Khan’s public display of a piece of paper, allegedly a diplomatic cypher, during a public gathering in March 2022. The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) initiated an investigation into the matter in July 2022, leading to the arrest of Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Imran Khan in connection with the case.
Imran Khan’s bail application seeks his release from custody while contesting the charges related to the Official Secrets Act and the alleged illegal possession of a classified document.
