Khawaja Asif Alleges Bajwa and Faiz Exerted Control Over Legislative Processes in PTI Government

Former Defence Minister and prominent PML-N member Khawaja Asif has criticized parliamentarians, alleging that military and intelligence officials, including former Chief of Army Staff Gen (r) Qamar Javed Bajwa and former ISI chief Lt Gen (r) Faiz Hameed, exerted control over legislative processes during the previous government of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). Asif claimed that these military officials played key roles in shaping legislation related to the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).

He admitted to consulting them for legislation during the previous government but expressed concern that such interference affected the law-making process, leading to negative consequences for the nation. Asif stressed the need for collaboration among various stakeholders for political stability and urged all parties to prioritize national interests and work together for the country’s progress. Additionally, he accused President Dr. Arif Alvi of violating the constitution by not convening the National Assembly’s inaugural session within the constitutionally mandated timeframe, suggesting that the president should face charges of treason under Article 6.

Asif’s remarks highlight concerns about the role of the military in political and legislative matters and the need for a collaborative approach among political stakeholders for the country’s well-being.
