The Peshawar city traffic police have introduced the ‘Chips Rider Squad’ to enhance traffic management in the provincial capital. This new initiative involves the deployment of a traffic police reserve force, specifically designed to address traffic congestion across the city. Unlike traditional static traffic units, the Chips Rider Squad is mobile and can be dispatched to areas experiencing traffic issues as they arise.
SSP Traffic Saud Khan emphasized that the department already operates several Chips Rider Squads, along with 36 patrolling vehicles dedicated to managing traffic in Peshawar. The new strategy involves leveraging the reserve force for efficient response to emergency calls and traffic problems. This approach ensures continuous coverage, even when regular traffic officers are unavailable due to emergencies or training commitments.

Mr. Saud explained that using the reserve force in this manner is a common practice, akin to the methods employed by regular and motorway police. The reserve force is mobilized to fill gaps left by regular officers, maintaining seamless traffic management operations.
“We have converted the reserve force into squads for a quick response to emergencies,” Mr. Saud stated. He highlighted the advantage of using motorbikes for the Chips Rider Squad, as it allows for swift and flexible navigation through the city to tackle traffic issues promptly.
This proactive measure aims to ensure a smoother flow of traffic throughout Peshawar, enhancing overall road safety and efficiency in the provincial capital.
