Pakistan Railways Has Announced Another Fare Hike

Pakistan Railways has announced another round of fare increases, effective from July 19. The new notification specifies a 1% rise in passenger train fares, taking effect across the country starting tomorrow. Additionally, freight train fares will also see a similar 1% increase under the same notification.

This adjustment is part of Pakistan Railways’ strategy to manage escalating operational costs. The aim is to maintain financial stability while ensuring continued reliable transportation services for both passengers and freight.

Earlier on July 1, Pakistan Railways had already implemented a 3% fare increase for goods vehicles and cargo in response to higher petroleum prices. This move was necessary to address increased operational expenses linked to fuel costs.

The fare adjustments apply nationwide, with directives issued to regional offices in Sukkur, Karachi, Multan, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Quetta, and Peshawar. The Railways Department has instructed station masters to implement the revised fare structures promptly.

These measures are intended to mitigate financial pressures stemming from volatile fuel markets, thereby supporting the sustainability of Pakistan Railways’ freight and passenger services.
