Fresh violence has erupted in Bangladesh as police clash with student protesters demanding justice for recent violence victims. On Wednesday, confrontations occurred in Dhaka and other cities, with reports from Sylhet indicating police using tear gas against demonstrators.
In Barisal, riot police were seen in photos from News Agency, enforcing barricades and detaining many protesters, including women.

This month’s unrest has claimed over 200 lives, primarily due to police firing, with nearly 10,000 people detained. The “March for Justice,” organized by Students Against Discrimination, protests against alleged mass killings, arrests, and disappearances.
The students are opposing a July Supreme Court decision reserving 5% of civil service jobs for veterans’ relatives, down from the previously allotted one-third, calling the policy discriminatory and demanding merit-based recruitment.
The student group also seeks apologies from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the resignation of six ministers. The government blames opposition parties for the turmoil. The EU has delayed talks on a new cooperation agreement, criticizing the government’s handling of the protests.
