Meta Announces that Llama AI Models are Being Adopted by Banks and Tech Companies

Meta announced that its Llama AI models are now being utilized by companies such as Goldman Sachs and AT&T for business operations like customer service, document review, and code generation. The mostly free Llama models have been downloaded nearly 350 million times since their public release last year, up from the 300 million downloads reported in late July with the launch of Llama 3.

Cloud usage through providers like Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure has more than doubled from May to July this year.

This development comes as Meta and other tech giants investing heavily in AI face investor scrutiny over the adoption and returns of these technologies.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has emphasized that providing state-of-the-art AI models for free is key to avoiding dependency on competitors’ proprietary technologies. He stated that the path for Llama to become an industry standard is through consistent competitiveness, efficiency, and openness.

While Llama and similar large language models impress with their ability to generate human-like text, they still struggle with logical tasks and factual accuracy, limiting their broader business use.

However, Meta highlighted several large enterprises, including Nomura Holdings, DoorDash, and Accenture, as examples of Llama’s utility and competitiveness with paid AI models from leaders like OpenAI.
