A Bangladeshi student leader, Shamim Ahmed, was fatally beaten at Jahangirnagar University in Dhaka. Ahmed was a prominent figure in the student wing of Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League party. Police suspect the attack was retaliation for his involvement in leading violence against protesters during the uprising that led to the ousting of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina last month.
Key details: Police officer Abu Bakkar reported that unknown individuals assaulted Ahmed on Wednesday night. He was transported to Gonoshasthaya Hospital, where he succumbed to multiple injuries. This marks the second killing of an Awami League student leader this month.
