Elon Musk flies into Beijing to meet with officials from China

Elon Musk is anticipated to meet with top Chinese authorities on his visit to China and go to the Tesla factory in Shanghai.

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, frequently uses private aircraft, and one of them has just landed in Beijing. Elon Musk is scheduled to meet with several top Chinese officials and visit the Tesla Shanghai plant, a Gigafactory that is in charge of supervising the final assembly of the Tesla Model 3 and Tesla Model Y.

Musk’s personal aircraft, a 2015 Gulfstream G650ER, was spotted from Alaska on Tuesday before flying through South Korea and Japan before making its way to China.

This is the CEO’s first trip to China in more over three years, but the electric vehicle manufacturer hasn’t given any information on the trip or the topics Musk would be talking with Chinese authorities.

However, Musk has long intended to set up a meeting with Li Qiang, the premier of China.

The foreign ministry of China, on the other hand, stated that they “welcome Musk” and other corporate executives and are working to foster “mutually beneficial cooperation”. Musk’s visit to China comes as Tesla is dealing with fierce competition from local producers of electric vehicles and uncertainties around the development of the Tesla Shanghai facility.

China is Tesla’s second-largest market after the US and also the location of its largest facility. Tesla has now announced intentions to raise production at its Shanghai facility by 450,000 vehicles annually and to establish a neighboring site to manufacture Megapack energy storage solutions.

The authorization of Tesla’s sophisticated driver assistance functions, which are included in the “Full Self Driving” programme, which costs $15,000, would be another topic of dispute.
