Pakistan has successfully operationalized its first multi-mission satellite, PAKSAT MM1, marking a significant milestone in the country’s space and digital development efforts. This initiative was facilitated by the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC).
Key Highlights of PAKSAT MM1:
- Enhanced Communication Infrastructure: The satellite is expected to transform Pakistan’s communication landscape, benefiting various IT sectors.
- Service Offerings: PAKSAT MM1 will provide crucial services, including television broadcasting, community internet access, and tele-education, aimed at promoting local industries.
- Rural Connectivity: It will enhance internet connectivity in remote areas, aligning with the government’s vision of a Digital Pakistan.
- Improved E-Governance Ranking: Following the satellite’s operationalization, Pakistan’s ranking in the United Nations E-Governance Development Index improved by 14 points, moving from 150th in 2022 to 136th.
Technical Details:
- Launched on May 30 by the Pakistan National Space Agency (SUPARCO), PAKSAT MM1 reached its operational orbit on June 5.
- Positioned at an altitude of 38,786 km above the earth and located at 38.2 East, the five-tonne satellite is equipped with advanced communication technology designed to deliver fast internet services.

As part of the next steps, SUPARCO will conduct various tests to monitor the satellite’s condition in orbit. This achievement signifies a leap forward for Pakistan’s capabilities in space technology and communication.
