Significant progress has been made in investigating an unverified report of a rape case on a student at a private college in Lahore.

DIG Imran Kishwar announced the arrest of 16 individuals linked to a social media campaign promoting false information, and noted that 138 accounts spreading fake news have been blocked. Additionally, 40 students involved in vandalism and violence have been identified.

Kishwar emphasized that efforts are ongoing to address disorder caused by misleading social media campaigns.

The unverified report of the alleged assault recently went viral, leading to protests and vandalism by students in multiple cities across Punjab.

However, an inquiry committee found no evidence of an assault at the college and no eyewitnesses to the incident. Interviews with about 28 students revealed that they had only heard about the incident from various sources, indicating that the issue was magnified through social media posts.
