Egypt's Grand Mufti Announces Al-Azhar Campus Opening in Pakistan

Egypt’s Grand Mufti, Dr. Nazir Muhammad Ayad, has announced the establishment of an Al-Azhar University campus in Pakistan, with the aim of promoting Islamic education and Arab culture.

During a meeting with Pakistan’s Education Minister, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, in Islamabad, Dr. Ayad highlighted Al-Azhar University’s dedication to women’s education, noting that over 40% of its students are female.

He emphasized that the new campus would not only enhance Islamic teachings but also foster closer ties between Pakistan and Egypt through cultural exchange.

Dr. Ayad encouraged Pakistan to send scholars to Egypt to benefit from the knowledge and expertise of one of the world’s oldest educational institutions.

Education Minister Siddiqui welcomed the initiative, underscoring the historical and cultural links between the two nations. He praised Al-Azhar’s role in the Islamic world and pledged full support for the establishment of its campus in Pakistan.

He also shared that Arabic language classes have been introduced in public schools across the federal capital to promote a deeper understanding of Islam.

Additionally, over 2,000 female students from Pakistani universities and colleges have been invited to attend an international conference on January 11, reflecting the government’s focus on advancing women’s education.
