Pakistan paid heartfelt tribute on Monday to its national poet and ideological pioneer, Dr Allama Muhammad Iqbal, marking his 87th death anniversary with reverence and national pride. A range of commemorative events, including poetry recitations, seminars, and discussions, were held across the country, reflecting on Iqbal’s lasting contributions to the nation’s foundation and identity.
A central ceremony took place at the Pakistan National Council of Arts (PNCA) in Islamabad, while government officials and citizens alike honoured the Poet of the East for his transformative role in awakening Muslim consciousness in the subcontinent.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in their official statements, called on the nation to embrace Iqbal’s vision of selfhood, unity, and intellectual revival. President Zardari underscored Iqbal’s message of spiritual and intellectual liberation, highlighting his 1930 Allahabad address as the intellectual foundation of the idea that led to the formation of Pakistan.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif echoed these sentiments, describing Iqbal as a beacon of hope whose teachings remain vital in navigating today’s challenges. He urged the youth to internalize Iqbal’s ideals, stressing that knowledge, unity, and moral integrity are essential in realising his dream of a prosperous and just Pakistan.
Born in Sialkot in 1877, Allama Iqbal’s poetic and philosophical legacy continues to inspire generations. His vision, later realised through the leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, remains a cornerstone of Pakistan’s national narrative.
