ECP issues Fawad Chaudhry’s arrest warrant

According to News, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued a bailable arrest order for former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry in a contempt case.

Imran Khan and others were sent with notices by the ECP in August 2022 for allegedly using “intemperate” language against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikander Sultan Raja and the electoral body.

The ECP has notified the Islamabad police and requested that Fawad Chaudhry’s arrest warrant be honoured.

The former federal official has been summoned to testify before the commission on July 6.

During the last hearing of the ECP contempt case, CEC Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja decided to issue an arrest warrant for Fawad Chaudhry over his continuous absence.

The Lahore High Court has already postponed the arrest warrants issued for the former prime minister and Fawad.

In its decision, the LHC Rawalpindi bench postponed the arrest warrants issued for the PTI president and Fawad in the Election Commission of Pakistan contempt case.

In its decision, the LHC asked the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to determine the ECP’s jurisdiction in the matter. The electoral board has also been told to continue operating in accordance with the law.
