Latest: Petrol Price Likely to Increase in Pakistan from July 16

The federal government, led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, is expected to increase petrol price and diesel rates from July 16. According to industry sources, the petrol price may go up by around Rs6.60 per litre, while high-speed diesel (HSD) might see a rise of Rs5.27 per litre.

These changes, if approved, will remain effective for 15 days. The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) is preparing to send a pricing proposal to the Ministry of Energy (Petroleum Division) for review.

Oil marketing companies submitted their pricing data to Ogra earlier this week. Based on this input and international market trends, Ogra will prepare its working paper. However, the final decision will rest with the Ministry of Finance after consulting with the Prime Minister.

A senior official from the energy ministry, speaking off the record, explained that fuel price changes depend on international oil rates and the exchange rate. He also mentioned that the government considers its fiscal situation before approving any price adjustment.

As of July 1, 2025, the petrol price in Pakistan is Rs266.79 per litre. High-speed diesel is currently sold at Rs272.98 per litre. If the proposed hike is approved, petrol price would rise above Rs273 per litre, while diesel would approach Rs278 per litre.

The expected increase has sparked concern among consumers, especially as inflation remains high. Rising fuel prices often impact transportation costs and the prices of essential goods.

The government has not yet confirmed the new rates. The official announcement is expected early next week. Citizens are advised to stay updated through reliable news sources for the final decision.

With global oil prices fluctuating, further adjustments in petrol and diesel rates cannot be ruled out in the coming months.
