In an important step, Punjab Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman has ordered strong action against buildings in Murree that were constructed in contravention of approved construction ordinances.
The decision was made at a meeting chaired by the chief secretary and attended by several officials including Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chatta, Deputy Commissioner Hasan Waqar Cheema, PHA DG Ahmed Hasan Ranjha, Murree ADCR Qasim Ijaz, and AC Kamran Hussain.

During the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Hasan Waqar Cheema presented a thorough briefing. The chief secretary emphasized the significance of auditing commercial structures in Murree to detect and correct any violations of approved building plans.
In order to counteract illegal buildings, authorities intend to step up their crackdown, focusing especially on commercial projects that lack adequate parking spaces. Additionally, as part of a comprehensive rehabilitation strategy to improve Murree’s aesthetic appeal, efforts will be made to perform necessary road repairs and guarantee that all buildings along roadside are painted.
Funding will be made available for these efforts, with a particular focus on increasing the monsoon plantation program, which will beautify Murree with a variety of vivid flowers and plants.
Furthermore, the chief secretary emphasized the critical need for enhanced sanitation standards, particularly in tourist regions, as well as the construction of an effective rubbish collection and disposal system.
The commissioner assured that all relevant institutions are working hard to restore Murree’s natural beauty. During the monsoon season, the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) has taken particular measures to boost the growth of flowers along roadside.
Deputy Commissioner Hasan Waqar Cheema reaffirmed Murree’s zero-tolerance policy for unlawful projects. He also stressed the need for a regular traffic management system and the deployment of necessary measures to handle parking concerns during peak hours.
