Afghanistan Makes History By Defeating Bangladesh To Reach T20 World Cup Semi-Final

Cricket underdog Afghanistan made history by defeating Bangladesh by 8 runs using the DLS method in a thrilling match. Rashid Khan’s team secured their first-ever T20 World Cup semifinal spot after a career-best performance.

Skipper Rashid Khan’s crucial 10-ball 19, which included three sixes, helped Afghanistan reach 115/5 in their 20 overs against Bangladesh in their final Super Eight match at St. Vincent on Tuesday.

Heavy showers began after the last ball, prompting groundsmen to quickly cover the field. Despite challenging conditions, Bangladesh was satisfied with their bowling effort, restricting Afghanistan to a modest total.

Opting to bat first, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran provided Afghanistan with a steady start under difficult batting conditions. The Tigers maintained tight lines and lengths, and except for Rashid’s late three sixes, Afghan batsmen struggled to keep their composure.

Player of the Match, Naveen, said his team worked hard over the past few years and dreamed of this day.

With the semifinals set, Afghanistan will face South Africa in the first match, while India and England, heavyweights in the tournament, will compete in the second.
