Thomas McMeekin first met Nancy Gambell while they were in high school six decades ago. He had a crush on her right away, but they went to different colleges and married different people. 78-year-olds are intending to marry nearly 63 years later.

Ten years ago, the two ran into one other at their 50th high school reunion but were still married, so their interaction was limited to pleasantries. McMeekin lives in the Tampa Bay area, whereas Gambell lives in California.

After a ten-year hiatus, the two reconnected this year when McMeekin contacted Gambell about their forthcoming 60th high school reunion. They were both single and began conversing right away. They quickly grew quite close.

McMeekin invited Gambell to Tampa Bay earlier this month. Gambell was in for a surprise when she stepped off the plane and met McMeekin at the airport. McMeekin got down on one knee and proposed to Gambell after welcome her. As everyone cheered, she accepted his proposal.

On social media, a video of their proposal is going viral. The popular Instagram account @majicallynews published a video of McMeekin’s proposal on Wednesday.

“This is beautiful!” said one Instagram user. And, aside from being such a special time, I think it’s crucial that he asked her to marry him in words of love! I see all these proposals where the man gets down on one knee with a hand or a ring and they hug! What makes her so wonderful that you want to marry her? Why would you want to spend the rest of your life with her, and why would she want to spend the rest of her life with you? I’m looking for a ring is not a proposal. I believe it is critical to say the words. I wish this lovely couple a lifetime of happiness, joy, love, and fun!!
