Lionel Messi may follow Cristiano Ronaldo to Saudi Arabia after receiving an official bid from Al Hilal.
The Saudi Pro League club is said to have offered Messi a contract worth €400 million per year, nearly double the amount Al Nassr used to entice Ronaldo to the Middle Eastern country.
The news follows reports that the World Cup winner will leave PSG in the summer after failing to reach an agreement on an extension with the Parisian club. PSG was optimistic about Messi’s future but is now preparing for his departure.
The French champions allegedly asked Messi to accept a 25% pay cut on his 40 million euro salary, which he refused.
Messi has also fallen short of expectations in Paris, with the celebrated trio of Messi, Neymar, and Kylian Mbappe failing to deliver the coveted Champions League.
During PSG’s recent loss to Lyon, the 35-year-old was booed.
With their world-record offer, Al Hilal could save Lionel Messi from his predicament, but Messi is determined to stay in Europe.
Barcelona is in constant contact with Messi’s entourage, with former teammate Xavi eager to see him return.
His next move is unknown, but it will be away from PSG.
