Alia Bhatt Under Fire for Silence on Palestine in 'Blockout 2024'

Bollywood actor Alia Bhatt, recently seen at the Met Gala in a striking Sabyasachi sari, has found herself under scrutiny for her silence on the Gaza atrocities. Hindustan Times reports that she’s now on the Blockout 2024 list, a movement calling out celebrities for not condemning the ongoing violence in Palestine. Despite her appearance at the Gucci Cruise Show in London after the Met Gala, where she attracted public criticism, Bhatt remains silent on the issue.

Operation Blockout 2024, dubbed the ‘digital guillotine’, has gained momentum on platforms like TikTok. Users are boycotting celebrities who haven’t used their platforms to speak up for Palestinians. Lists of blocked celebrities are circulating on various platforms, including X, Instagram, and Facebook. Bhatt joins a list of prominent names facing public condemnation for their silence, including Taylor Swift, Priyanka Chopra, and Beyoncé.

However, some celebrities have risked their careers by speaking out against the Israeli military assault. Actors like Mark Ruffalo and Ramy Youssef, along with Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan, have actively voiced their support for Palestine. Many celebrities have worn Artists4ceasefire pins at events, showing solidarity with the cause.

Singer-songwriter Annie Lennox praised Mark Ruffalo earlier this year for wearing an Artists4ceasefire pin. She highlighted the fear among artists to speak out publicly on the issue but emphasized the importance of calling for peace and a ceasefire in Gaza.

While celebrities on the blockout list haven’t seen immediate career repercussions, their fan support may have been impacted. The movement underscores the power of social media activism in holding public figures accountable for their actions—or inactions.
