Amir joins Desert Vipers for International League T20 cricket competition

The Desert Vipers, a franchise in the International League T20 (ILT20), have made a significant acquisition by signing former Pakistani fast bowler Mohammad Amir for the upcoming second edition of the tournament. Tom Moody, the director of the Desert Vipers, conveyed his optimism about the strengthening of their bowling attack with Amir’s inclusion.

Moody remarked that signing Amir is a strategic move, emphasizing Amir’s familiarity with UAE conditions, having recently played there for the New York Strikers in the T10 tournament under the coaching of Carl Crowe. Amir played a pivotal role in the Strikers’ triumph in the T10 competition, showcasing his form and skill. Moody sees Amir as an asset that adds depth to the Desert Vipers’ already quality pace attack, expressing anticipation for Amir’s contribution to what they envision as a successful campaign.

In response to joining the Desert Vipers, Amir expressed his excitement about playing alongside talented and experienced players like Alex Hales, Colin Munro, and Sheldon Cottrell, along with promising newcomers. He looks forward to teaming up with fellow Pakistanis Shaheen Shah Afridi, Shadab Khan, and Azam Khan. Amir’s eagerness to visit Dubai and reunite with the team, including coach Carl Crowe, reflects the camaraderie and shared goals within the squad.

Amir’s signing makes him the fourth Pakistani player to be part of the Vipers, joining the ranks of Shaheen Shah Afridi, Shadab Khan, and Azam Khan. At 31 years old, the seasoned pacer brings a wealth of experience, boasting an impressive record of 259 T20 matches and 303 wickets, which includes two five-wicket hauls. Notably, Amir contributed to the Karachi Kings’ victory in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) in 2020, adding to his credentials as a valuable asset for T20 competitions.

As Amir gears up for the ILT20 with the Desert Vipers, his presence is expected to not only fortify the team’s bowling department but also provide leadership and expertise to guide the squad. The Desert Vipers, with their blend of experienced campaigners and emerging talents, aim to make a mark in the upcoming edition of the International League T20, and Amir’s signing is a strategic step towards achieving that objective.
