Assault on PTI Chairman Gohar Khan's family reported in Islamabad

PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan asserted on Saturday that his family faced an attack while he was present at the Supreme Court. The incident unfolded during the hearing of the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) plea challenging the Peshawar High Court’s (PHC) verdict favoring PTI in the bat symbol and intra-party polls case.

Upon receiving the update, Gohar Khan promptly left the Supreme Court premises. In a conversation with party member Barrister Ali Zafar, he revealed that his sons and nephews had been assaulted, and the attackers took away a computer.

“Some people reached his home and beat up his family members,” pointed out PTI’s lawyer, referring to Barrister Gohar.

Chief Justice Isa expressed displeasure at the news, summoning the additional attorney general and directing him to look into the matter. The PTI chairman returned to the court later, describing the situation as very serious.

The chief justice instructed the additional attorney general to address the issue. Barrister Gohar expressed distrust, stating he wanted to inform the court about the incident.

The additional attorney general informed the court that he had spoken with the home secretary and the Inspector General of Islamabad Police (IGP), who were investigating the matter.

As the PTI chairman attempted to speak, Chief Justice Isa directed him to inform the additional attorney general first. If not heard by him, then he could inform the court directly.

Addressing the attack, Barrister Gohar remarked that the limit had been crossed. Chief Justice Isa clarified that the court is not the police and urged them to inform the court if they cannot resolve the issue.

Meanwhile, the Islamabad police claimed to have received information about reaching Barrister Gohar’s house based on a tip-off. They stated that upon arriving, they realized the house belonged to Barrister Gohar, and the police returned without causing violence or taking any documents. The police asserted that it was a routine operation and ongoing investigations would clarify the situation.
