In a landmark ruling, the Balochistan High Court (BHC) has addressed the mounting grievances of the people of Balochistan against excessive billing by the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC). The division bench, comprised of Justice Kamran Malakhail and Justice Nazir Ahmed Langove, took note of the dire situation despite assurances from the gas company of fair billing. As a result, the justices ordered citizens to pay only 10% of their bills issued over the past three months, aiming to alleviate the financial burdens faced by the masses.
Justice Malakhail emphasized that it was unjustifiable for the people of Balochistan to bear the brunt of inflated gas bills. The ruling brought relief to many struggling families who had been grappling with the dilemma of paying hefty bills or facing disconnection.

The courtroom was filled with concerned citizens seeking respite from the financial strain caused by the excessive bills. Notable lawyers, including Syed Nazeer Agha Advocate and human rights activist Jalila Haider, appeared in the case, highlighting the significance of the issue. Gas company officials were summoned to explain the staggering bills burdening the populace. Despite the court’s repeated admonitions, the gas authorities persisted in imposing unjust charges, leading to punitive measures for residents unable to pay.
The court’s intervention shed light on systemic negligence, and the adjournment of the case until April 18 signals a continued effort by the judiciary to hold those responsible accountable for the economic hardships endured by the people of Balochistan.
