Bilawal Alleges Political Rivals Contesting Polls to Avoid Jail

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari asserted that he doesn’t have any political rivals, claiming that no one can compete with him in politics.

Speaking at a rally in Kohat district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Bilawal took a veiled dig at his political opponents, stating that they are contesting elections for their personal interests. He contrasted himself by emphasizing that he is contesting polls to address the issues faced by the masses. Bilawal criticized some opponents who, according to him, are fighting elections to avoid imprisonment.

During the rally, Bilawal highlighted that the PPP represents the workers and poor of the country, not the elite. He pledged to bury the traditional politics of division and focus on serving the masses. Expressing optimism about forming the government after the upcoming general elections, Bilawal vowed to ensure that the people receive their rights. Despite security threat alerts, he held the party convention in KP, stating that PPP workers are not scared and won’t surrender to terrorism.

Bilawal accused Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) of attempting to roll back the 18th Amendment to curtail the provinces’ autonomy. The public gathering is part of Bilawal’s election campaign leading up to the general elections scheduled for February 8 next year. He expressed hope that the truth behind the death sentence of PPP founder Zulfikar Ali Bhutto would be revealed during the upcoming Supreme Court hearing on revisiting the controversial case. The last hearing of the 12-year-old presidential reference on Bhutto’s death sentence was held on November 11, 2022.
