Bushra Bibi Seeks Transfer to Adiala Jail: Files Petition in IHC

On Tuesday, Bushra Bibi, the wife of PTI founder Imran Khan, filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) seeking the annulment of the notification to convert their Banigala residence into a sub-jail for her following her 14-year conviction in the Toshakhana case.

In her petition, Bushra Bibi requested the annulment of the state’s January 31 notification, which authorized the conversion of Imran Khan’s residence into a sub-jail for her at the request of the jail superintendent. She named Islamabad’s chief commissioner, the Adiala jail superintendent, the inspector general (IG) of Punjab prisons, and the state as respondents in the case.

Asserting equality before the law, Bushra Bibi pointed out that other political workers are incarcerated alongside ordinary prisoners, emphasizing that her transfer to the Banigala Sub Jail, following an 11-hour wait after sentencing, violated her equal rights.

The petition highlighted that Bushra Bibi did not make any such request and expressed her desire to serve her sentence at Adiala jail. Following her sentencing, she was initially informed of her transfer to another jail after 9 pm, only to later find out that Imran Khan’s house had been declared a sub-jail.

Bushra Bibi and Imran Khan were convicted to 14 years in jail in the Toshakhana reference, with charges of retaining expensive jewelry after paying a nominal price. Additionally, the accountability court imposed a fine of Rs787 million each on the accused individuals, marking one of the most swiftly concluded trials in the courts’ history.
