Suzuki is reportedly aiming to reduce the weight of its popular Alto hatchback by up to 15%, which is expected to lower production costs. The company plans to achieve this weight reduction over the next decade, focusing on improving the vehicle’s energy efficiency.

Currently, the 660 model weighs around 680 kilograms, but Suzuki intends to cut this by 100 kilograms, which should enhance fuel efficiency and reduce overall vehicle costs.

Suzuki’s automotive technology division noted that heavier vehicles need larger batteries and motors for better performance and range, so by using smaller batteries and motors, the company hopes to cut costs.

Reducing the vehicle’s weight by 200 kilograms is projected to lower energy consumption and improve efficiency by 6%. Additionally, Suzuki is developing new software and advanced driver assistance technologies to help reduce traffic congestion.
