Pakistan Railways Lowers Ticket Prices by 10%

Pakistan Railways has announced a 10% reduction in fares for all AC and economy classes, effective September 23. This fare cut applies to express and mail trains nationwide, aimed at offering relief to passengers amid rising travel expenses.

The reduction follows a recent decrease in fuel prices. The federal government lowered the price of petrol by Rs. 10 per liter, from Rs. 259.10 to Rs. 249.10.

Additionally, the price of kerosene oil was reduced by Rs. 11.15 per liter, bringing it down to Rs. 158.47, while light diesel oil saw a Rs. 12.12 reduction, lowering the price to Rs. 141.93 per liter.

The price of high-speed diesel (HSD) was also decreased by Rs. 13.06 per liter, now costing Rs. 249.69.

Pakistan Railways has also implemented a public-private partnership (PPP) model to operate certain passenger trains. Under this scheme, ten trains, including the Karachi Express, Awam Express, and Hazara Express, will be managed by private operators.

Interested parties have been invited to submit bids, and technical evaluations will take place on the same day, according to officials.
