Prince Salman reached out to congratulate PM Sharif on his assumption of office, having previously conveyed his greetings upon Mr. Sharif’s election as prime minister. The relationship between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan has been deeply rooted in mutual economic interests, strategic military cooperation, and shared Islamic heritage, spanning various dimensions over the years.

Economically, the ties have involved economic assistance and energy supplies, with Saudi Arabia playing a significant role in supporting Pakistan through financial aid and oil provisions. Militarily, the cooperation extends to defence collaboration, training, and joint exercises, reflecting a robust strategic alliance between the two nations.

In recent times, the partnership has expanded beyond traditional realms to encompass counterterrorism efforts, regional stability initiatives, and mutual political support on international platforms. This evolution underscores the desire for a more comprehensive and dynamic relationship, encompassing economic, military, diplomatic, and regional security interests.

During their conversation, Prime Minister Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s pride in its historical and fraternal ties with Saudi Arabia, emphasizing the solidarity between the two nations through thick and thin. He commended Saudi Arabia for its consistent commitment and support to Pakistan, affirming the strong bond between the two countries.

Mr. Sharif’s vision for “comprehensive strategic ties” likely encompasses efforts to deepen economic collaboration through increased Saudi investment in critical sectors such as infrastructure, energy, and tourism, essential for Pakistan’s economic development. Additionally, it involves closer coordination on regional security issues, counterterrorism measures, and mutual political backing on matters pertinent to the Muslim world.

Furthermore, Prime Minister Sharif extended an invitation to the Saudi Crown Prince to undertake an official visit to Pakistan, indicating a willingness to further strengthen bilateral engagements at the highest levels. This gesture reflects the importance attached to nurturing and expanding the strategic partnership between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia for mutual benefit and regional stability.
