Solar Panel Prices Drop in Pakistan Due to Oversupply

Pakistan has experienced a significant shift towards solar energy due to the need to reduce reliance on expensive fossil fuels. As a result of this transition, the price of imported solar panels has dropped sharply to Rs. 30-32 per Watt, the lowest in recent years.

Experts attribute this price decrease to an oversupply in the local market and falling international prices. The decline is also influenced by a major drop in global lithium battery prices, which have halved recently.

Despite this, the cost of dry batteries remains high, as importers are hesitant to reduce prices for local buyers. Last year, Pakistan’s solar energy market grew rapidly, with increased imports from China meeting the rising demand for net metering solutions.

The high cost of grid electricity has prompted many consumers to switch to more affordable and reliable solar energy options.
