Court to Decide Today on Imran-Bushra 'Un-Islamic Nikah' Case Verdict

The trial court is set to deliver its verdict on the “un-Islamic nikah” between Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi at Adiala jail. Senior Civil Judge Qudratullah will announce the verdict, following a 14-hour hearing conducted within the jail premises.

The case, initiated by Bushra Bibi’s ex-husband Khawar Maneka, revolves around his plea against what he deems an un-Islamic and illegal nikah between Imran Khan and the former prime minister’s wife. The cross-examination of statements from four witnesses has been completed, and statements from both Khan and Bushra under section 342 have been recorded.

Bushra Bibi, currently placed at Banigala with sub-jail status, will be brought to Adiala for the final hearing. The verdict will be announced in the presence of Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi, and their respective legal representatives.

The complainant’s counsel, Raja Rizwan Abbasi, along with Imran Khan’s lawyer Salman Akram Raja and Bushra Bibi’s lawyer Usman Gul, presented their final arguments during the preceding day.

Khawar Maneka, in his petition, argued that the nikah was “fraudulent” as it occurred during Bushra’s iddat, following her divorce from him. He claimed the marriage was neither legal nor Islamic due to the absence of the required iddah period. Maneka accused Imran Khan of adversely impacting his life and family, aiming to achieve “unethical and immoral objects” through interference in his peaceful marital life. The petition concludes with a request for legal action against Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi in the interest of justice.
