Deputy PM Confirms 41 Fatalities In Kuwait Building Fire Incident

A fire erupted in a building accommodating workers in Mangaf, Kuwait, claiming the lives of at least 41 people, according to Sheikh Fahad Yusuf Saud Al-Sabah, the country’s deputy prime minister, who visited the scene.

The deputy PM criticized real estate owners for violations and greed, attributing these factors to the incident.

“Unfortunately, the greed of real estate owners is what leads to these matters,” stated Sheikh Fahad, who also oversees the interior and defense ministries.

The fire was reported to authorities at 6:00 am local time, Major General Eid Rashed Hamad confirmed.

“The building where the fire broke out was used as workers’ quarters, and a large number of workers were present. Although dozens were rescued, many succumbed to smoke inhalation,” noted another senior police commander.

“We always alert and warn against” overcrowding workers in accommodation, he added, without specifying the workers’ employment type or origin.

Officials mentioned that the fire was under control, and investigations into its cause were underway.
