Elections were Robbed not Stolen in Karachi says Sirajul Haq

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Sirajul Haq has taken a strong stance against the alleged electoral rigging in Pakistan’s recent elections, denouncing it as a direct attack on the integrity of the vote and public trust. In a strongly worded statement shared on his official handle, Haq described the purported rigging as the most severe instance in Pakistan’s electoral history.

Haq pointed fingers at the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), alleging that the results were manipulated in their favor. He particularly highlighted the situation in Karachi, likening it to robbery rather than mere theft.

Expressing his unequivocal opposition to such manipulation, Haq announced his personal participation in protests in Karachi, emphasizing that the theft of the people’s mandate is unacceptable.

The JI had previously touted itself as the most popular party in Karachi according to public polls leading up to the February 8 elections. Despite this, the party failed to secure any National Assembly seats in the city, which was once considered a stronghold of the religious party before the rise of the MQM in the 1980s.

JI Karachi chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has been vocal in addressing the city’s longstanding issues. He previously served as the party’s mayoral candidate for Karachi in the 2023 local government elections.
