Chennai Super Kings won the 16th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) by defeating Gujarat Titans in a rain-delayed championship match in Ahmedabad by a margin of five wickets.

The final match, which had previously been moved to the reserve day, was forced to be shortened to 15 overs due to severe rain during the second innings. By striking a boundary on the final ball of the game, Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja helped the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings to chase the predetermined target.

But the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad saw yet another humiliating incident when it was discovered that the grounds crew was using sponges to dry a spot close to the pitch. Despite being one of the most modern stadiums, the well-known location shocked cricket fans when they saw sponges being used to dry the damp outfield.
