Fazl Gears Up for Afghanistan Visit with 'TTP on Agenda'

Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F), is set to make his first visit to Afghanistan in nearly 10 years. The visit, scheduled for Sunday, will focus on various issues, including the banned outfit Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Pak-Afghan bilateral relations. The JUI-F chief will address the continuous use of Afghan soil against Pakistan, an issue Islamabad has raised with the Taliban-led Afghan administration.

Fazlur Rehman was invited to visit Afghanistan by the interim Afghan Ambassador to Pakistan, and the Taliban government’s spokesperson, Zabihullah Mujahid, confirmed the upcoming visit. This marks Fazlur Rehman’s first visit to Afghanistan since the Taliban took control following the United States’ withdrawal in 2021.

Accompanying Fazlur Rehman on the trip will be former National Assembly member Jamaluddin Mehsood. The visit comes at a time when relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan have faced challenges, particularly amid a surge in terrorist incidents in Pakistan, often claimed by the TTP.

Fazlur Rehman emphasized the need for negotiations and a comprehensive strategy based on ground realities for talks with the TTP. The JUI-F chief has expressed concern over the security situation in Pakistan, particularly after his party was targeted in attacks over the past six months. The visit is expected to address critical issues impacting regional stability and cooperation between the two countries.
