Google Photos Makes AI Editing Features Free

Google announced today that users of the Google Photos app will have access to AI-powered features without requiring a paid subscription. These features include Portrait light, Photo Unblur, and Magic Eraser.

This change will take effect on May 15, coincidentally following Google’s annual developer conference. As is typical with Google, the rollout may take a few weeks beyond that date. Additionally, Google revealed that these features will be available on “more devices, including Pixel tablets”.

Last year, Google introduced the Magic Editor for the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. This tool utilizes generative AI to perform complex edits with simple steps, such as moving subjects or changing the color of the sky. With unlimited usage, this feature is now accessible on all Pixel devices.

Furthermore, every Google Photos user on iOS and Android will receive 10 Magic Editor saves per month. To exceed this limit, a Pixel device or a Premium Google One subscription with at least 2TB of storage will be required.
