Govt Reduces Petrol Price Significantly Before Eid

The federal government announced on Friday a reduction in petrol prices by Rs. 10.20 per liter, a day ahead of the usual fortnightly review. This announcement came directly from the Prime Minister’s Office, which also stated that the price of high-speed diesel will be reduced by Rs. 2.33 per liter.

Traditionally, the Ministry of Finance is responsible for announcing changes in petroleum prices on the 15th and the last day of each month. However, the Prime Minister took the step to announce the cuts a day earlier than the scheduled review.

It is important to note that during the previous fortnightly review of petroleum prices, a significant price cut announced by the Prime Minister’s Office was later found to be incorrect. This previous incident has caused some confusion and highlights the importance of accurate and timely communication regarding price changes.

The current reduction in petrol and diesel prices is seen as a relief for consumers, particularly with the announcement coming just ahead of Eid. This move is expected to ease some financial pressure on the public during the festive period.

Overall, the government’s decision to lower petrol and diesel prices ahead of the official review is a notable development, reflecting an attempt to provide immediate economic relief to the populace. However, the early announcement, deviating from the usual protocol, raises questions about the consistency and reliability of such information.
