The Islamabad police announced on Monday that the individual found hanging from a bridge in the federal capital was reportedly “mentally ill.” The discovery was made after residents spotted a body hanging from a bridge in Islamabad’s Faisal Avenue area, with initial reports suggesting that the body had gone unnoticed for several hours due to dense fog.

The deceased has been identified as 30-year-old Umar Shaham, son of Umar Bahadur, according to documents retrieved from the body. Umar Shaham was an Islamabad resident originally from Mardan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

While the police have initiated an investigation, they have indicated that the incident appears to be a suicide. The investigation officer’s report stated, “A dead body hanging from a bridge, in an incident that seems to be suicide, was discovered within the Aabpara Police Station’s jurisdiction […] and the deceased has been shifted to the PIMS hospital.”

The police emphasized the importance of addressing mental health issues, stating that such deaths could be prevented with proper attention to mental health. They urged the public to be vigilant and report unusual activities by calling the ’15’ helpline.

In a related incident earlier in the day, Karachi police discovered the bodies of a family in an apartment near Karachi’s Wireless Gate area. The deceased, identified as Syed Ahsan Raza Rizvi, allegedly committed suicide after killing his wife and three children. The police found a note suggesting financial troubles as a motive for the tragic incident.
