Iftikhar Ahmed highlighted his exceptional performance as a bowler in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, maintaining a commendable economy rate. However, he expressed the opinion that individual performances might not carry significant weight, as a captain tends to rely on players he trusts.

During the discussion, Iftikhar Ahmed mentioned that he had spoken to Babar Azam about his role but expressed a preference for the captaincy decision to be made by a specialist.

At 33 years old, Iftikhar Ahmed emphasized his impressive record of taking numerous wickets in both domestic and first-class cricket. However, he acknowledged the importance of utilizing specialist bowlers like Shadab Khan and Mohammad Nawaz.

Iftikhar Ahmed highlighted the potential injustice to Shadab Khan and Mohammad Nawaz if they were not assigned their bowling duties. He clarified that he sees himself as an ODI bowler and believes he should be entrusted with his complete quota of 10 overs.
