Imran Khan Contests IHC's Dismissal In Toshakhana Case

Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), lodged a petition with the Supreme Court challenging the rejection of the plea to transfer the Toshakhana reference case from the Islamabad High Court (IHC). The case revolves around the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) decision.

In the petition, Imran Khan pointed out that a similar plea was already submitted to the Lahore High Court (LHC) concerning the ECP’s actions to remove him from assembly membership and party chairmanship. He highlighted the simultaneous proceedings in both the IHC and LHC regarding the matter.

The petition underscores that the IHC declined the request to withdraw the case despite being urged to do so. It argues that no court should impede the transfer of the case.

The petition seeks the annulment of the IHC’s decision dated December 6, 2023. Alternatively, if annulment is not feasible, it requests the case to be transferred to the LHC. The respondents in the petition include the ECP, the National Assembly speaker, and other relevant parties.

Additionally, the PTI filed an application in the Supreme Court, urging an expedited hearing of the case related to the election symbol, a cricket bat. The request seeks an early hearing, preferably on January 8, or at the least, in the month of January.
