Imran Khan Set to Run in Three Constituencies for Upcoming Elections

In a groundbreaking revelation today, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) disclosed that former Prime Minister Imran Khan, currently imprisoned at Adiala Jail, has unveiled plans to contest the impending general elections across three constituencies.

Imran Khan’s legal entanglements stem from a conviction on August 5 in a case initiated by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). The charges implicated him in withholding information regarding state gifts, resulting in a three-year prison sentence. This verdict initially imposed a five-year prohibition on his electoral participation. However, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) intervened by suspending the three-year sentence, although Imran remains incarcerated due to other ongoing legal proceedings.

Fresh developments arose as the Islamabad High Court recently deferred its judgment on Imran’s plea to suspend the conviction linked to the Toshakhana gifts case.

Addressing the media outside Adiala Jail, Barrister Ali Zafar relayed Imran Khan’s unequivocal determination to contest elections from a minimum of three constituencies in Pakistan. He underscored the significance of an imminent decision from the IHC regarding Imran’s appeal, expressing optimism for a favorable ruling, especially given the release of the election schedule.

Asserting the PTI’s commitment to ensure fair participation, Barrister Zafar highlighted the directive for PTI members to file nomination papers, with a particular focus on prioritizing incarcerated party workers, recognizing their dedicated allegiance to the party’s cause.

In a stern rebuke of alleged attempts to hinder the nomination process, Barrister Zafar condemned such actions as undemocratic and detrimental to the electoral process, calling upon the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to intervene and rectify the situation.

Meanwhile, PTI Chairman Gohar Khan fervently advocated for the scheduled elections on February 8, emphasizing concerns over purported disruptions in the nomination process. He cited an incident involving PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi, whose nomination papers were forcefully seized from his secretary.

Barrister Gohar reaffirmed Imran’s steadfast commitment to participating in the elections, assuring that Imran Khan would receive his nomination papers imminently. He divulged Imran’s intent to contest from three significant constituencies—Lahore, Mianwali, and Islamabad—underscoring Imran Khan’s pivotal role in determining the party’s ticket allocation.
