Strict security measures have been put in place around the jail, and police have closed roads leading to it to prevent PTI supporters from gathering.
After sentenced to three years in prison, the trial court issued an arrest order for the PTI chairman. Following the verdict in a graft case, the Inspector General of Islamabad Police has been asked to arrest the former PM immediately.
Following the verdict, the PTI said that it would submit an appeal in the country’s highest court, the Supreme Court of Pakistan, against the decision, which sparked further controversy.
The previous ruling party rejected the trial court’s verdict in a statement, calling it “another dark event in the justice system.”
