Increased Security Concerns: More Educational Institutes in Islamabad Shut Down

Despite reassurances from the Islamabad Inspector General of Police, Dr. Akbar Nasir Khan, stating that the security situation is under control, numerous educational institutions in the federal capital have chosen to remain closed for the day.

In a video message shared on the capital police’s social media platforms, IGP Dr. Akbar Nasir Khan urged school officials not to alter school and college schedules, emphasizing that the security situation in the federal capital is currently manageable.

However, a significant number of institutes have opted to close and conduct online classes instead. The International Islamic University, for instance, will remain closed from January 23 until January 26, according to a university spokesperson. Earlier, three prominent universities in Islamabad—Bahria University, Air University, and National Defense University—had already announced indefinite closures.

In contrast, Quaid-e-Azam University has decided to reopen on Wednesday and rescheduled exams originally planned for Monday and Tuesday to Saturday.

While the Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority (PEIRA) has advised private schools to enhance security measures, it clarified that schools across the federal capital will remain open. Similarly, the Federal Directorate of Education made a similar announcement. In addition, the Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad clarified that a viral notification regarding the closure of educational institutes, markets, and commercial banks is fake.
