A guitar once owned and played by Beatles member John Lennon is set to be auctioned, attracting considerable attention. The Framus 12-string Hootenanny guitar, which spent over five decades in a rural attic in England, is expected to fetch at least $1 million. According to the Mirror, Lennon and fellow bandmate George Harrison used this instrument during the recording sessions for the Beatles’ albums Help! and Rubber Soul, including tracks like “You’ve Got to Hide Your Love Away,” “Norwegian Wood,” and “Girl.”

The Mirror also reports that Lennon allegedly gifted the guitar to musician Gordon Waller of the pop duo Peter and Gordon. Its authenticity has been confirmed through extensive examination and consultation with Beatles history experts. The guitar is slated for auction by Julien’s Auctions at the Hard Rock Cafe in New York on May 29 and 30, with a starting bid of $150,000, expected to rise to $1 million.

This auction is anticipated to be a major event in music memorabilia sales, with the potential sale price rivaling the record set by Lennon’s Gibson J160E guitar, which sold for $2.4 million in 2015.
