Kakar's Interim Govt Makes History as Longest-Serving

In Islamabad, the caretaker government led by Prime Minister Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar has achieved the distinction of becoming the country’s lengthiest-serving caretaker administration.

Kakar has set a new milestone, having completed 131 days as Prime Minister, surpassing the previous record held by Mian Muhammad Soomro’s government, which lasted 130 days.

Official records confirm Kakar took office as the 8th caretaker Prime Minister on August 14, 2023. His appointment was immediately formalized on the same day.

Past caretaker Prime Ministers include Justice Nasirul Mulk, who served for 79 days from June 1, 2018, to August 18, 2018, and Justice Mir Hazar Khan Khoso, who held office for 71 days from March 25, 2013, to June 4, 2013.

Mehraj Khalid served for 104 days from November 5, 1996, to February 16, 1997, while Moin Qureshi’s tenure spanned 92 days from July 18, 1993, to October 18, 1993.

Balakh Sher Mazari held the shortest tenure, serving as caretaker Prime Minister for 38 days from April 18, 1993, to May 26, 1993.

Ghulam Mustafa Jatoi occupied the caretaker Prime Minister position for 91 days, leading from August 6, 1990, to November 5, 1990.
