Korangi Police Registers FIR Against Garbage Dumping in Malir River

In a significant move towards combating environmental pollution, the Korangi police in Karachi have registered the first case against the dumping of garbage into the Malir River at Causeway Road. The action was taken after a dumper driver named Irfanullah was caught red-handed while disposing of waste into the river during the early hours of Sunday night.

The dumping of garbage in public spaces, including rivers, has become a growing concern in the region. In response to this issue, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah expressed his dissatisfaction during a visit to the Korangi district, emphasizing the need to address the problem effectively. He directed the police to apprehend anyone found involved in the act of dumping garbage on roads or into the Malir River.

This recent development follows a similar initiative taken by the Lahore High Court (LHC) regarding the disposal of waste. The LHC recently ordered the imposition of fines for individuals involved in dumping garbage on roads, citing the increasing threat of smog in the province. During the court hearing, the judges expressed their disapproval of burning garbage, which is in violation of court orders.

Justice Shahid Karim, while presiding over the case, summoned a detailed report from the CEO of the Lahore Waste Management Board and warned that the official would be held accountable if garbage continued to be burned on the roads.

These actions highlight the growing concern over environmental pollution caused by improper waste management practices. By registering an FIR against the dumping of garbage into the Malir River, the authorities in Karachi are sending a strong message that such activities will not be tolerated. The aim is to create a cleaner and healthier environment for the residents of the city.

Efforts to address this issue are not limited to Karachi alone. The Lahore High Court’s stance on fining those responsible for dumping garbage on roads demonstrates a commitment to combating pollution and ensuring a cleaner environment for the citizens of Lahore.

These recent actions by law enforcement and the judiciary serve as a reminder of the importance of responsible waste management and the need for collective efforts to preserve and protect our environment.
