In the midst of worsening smog conditions in Lahore, the interim government of Punjab is considering the implementation of artificial rainfall to address the situation. Recent reports indicate a resurgence of smog in Lahore, leading to a significant increase in air pollution levels. The Air Quality Index (AQI) for the city has reached intolerable levels, ranking it among the most polluted cities globally.

The Meteorological Department has predicted no chance of natural rainfall in Lahore within the next 24 hours. The escalating smog poses challenges for residents, prompting medical experts to recommend precautionary measures for those going outdoors.

In response to the crisis, on Wednesday, the Caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab, Mohsin Naqvi, announced the closure of schools and offices across the province on November 18 (Saturday) as part of intensified efforts to combat smog. Lahore consistently ranks among the top three most polluted cities due to widespread smog.

The decision to suspend educational and administrative activities followed a meeting chaired by CM Mohsin Naqvi with the provincial Cabinet Committee on smog.
