Fahad Mirza: Sarwat and I Were Meant to Be

The Pakistani film and television industry brims with abundant talent, yet few actors can boast of holding a medical degree while gracing the screens simultaneously.

Fahad Mirza, a 42-year-old plastic surgeon and actor extraordinaire, exudes charm and boyish good looks. In a candid chat with his longtime friend Ahmad Ali Butt, Fahad delved into a plethora of topics ranging from beauty, spirituality, and politics to fatherhood and marriage, offering insights into what makes him tick. “I had always wanted to be a hero,” he recalled. “Never a doctor.”

However, Fahad’s mother had different aspirations, often proclaiming that her son, the second of four children, would become an orthopedic surgeon. Raised in a loving environment, Fahad credited his mother for instilling the importance of education in him, driving him to excel in medicine.

Despite his mother’s ambitions, Fahad’s childhood dream was to become an actor, inspired by icons like Sean Connery, Roger Moore, and Pierce Brosnan. “I just wanted to be James Bond,” Fahad confessed. His journey into acting began during his medical studies when, despite financial constraints, he pursued his passion, even earning the nickname “Hero” from a cigarette vendor, a testament to his early acting aspirations.

Fahad’s acting career blossomed during his medical college years, with pivotal roles in plays, thanks to mentors like Marina Khan and Jalil Akhtar. Despite the challenges and meager pay, Fahad realized that acting was a viable option, especially witnessing Fawad Khan’s success in Pakistani television.

His career trajectory took a significant turn with roles in plays and eventually the opportunity to star in Parizaad, a project he initially hesitated to accept. However, a chance encounter with a stranger at Lahore airport, who recognized him from the show, convinced him otherwise.

In addition to his professional success, Fahad found love with his wife, Sarwat, whom he met in 2001. Their relationship, grounded in mutual respect and understanding, blossomed over time, with Fahad acknowledging Sarwat’s unwavering support and independence.

Fatherhood brought profound changes for Fahad, initially met with apprehension but later embraced with wonder and joy. His spiritual outlook has been a guiding force throughout his life, providing solace and perspective amid life’s trials and tribulations.

Overall, Fahad Mirza’s journey is a testament to resilience, passion, and the pursuit of dreams amidst the complexities of life, offering inspiration to many.
