Faysal Quraishi on Khaie's Portrayal of Pashtuns

In a recent interview with a local television network, veteran Pakistani actor Faysal Quraishi tackled fan feedback and concerns regarding the storyline of the popular drama series, Khaie. Specifically, he addressed complaints from some viewers who expressed discomfort with the portrayal of certain communities, notably the Pashtun community, in the show.

Quraishi began by acknowledging the feedback, highlighting messages he received from viewers who shared their experiences of moving away from their native areas due to longstanding rivalries depicted in the series. He noted that many viewers could relate to the story’s themes of inter-community conflicts, even though specific tribal or ethnic identities were not explicitly mentioned in the narrative.

Addressing concerns about the portrayal of Pashtuns, Quraishi clarified that the show does not explicitly label any characters as such. He explained that while certain linguistic cues might suggest a particular ethnic group, the storyline does not attribute specific identities to the characters involved in the conflicts portrayed.

Furthermore, Quraishi emphasized director Syed Wajahat Hussain’s clarification regarding the fictional and imaginative nature of the storyline. He urged viewers to enjoy the series as a creative work of fiction, distinct from real-life events or communities.

Khaie, featuring Quraishi and Durefishan Saleem, has garnered significant attention for its portrayal of complex societal issues and conflicts resonant with real-life struggles in certain regions. Quraishi’s response aims to address viewer concerns while emphasizing the creative freedom exercised in crafting the storyline.

By acknowledging the experiences of viewers who found resonance in the narrative, Quraishi suggests that the drama effectively captures historical and societal challenges faced by certain communities. However, he underscores the importance of distinguishing between fiction and reality, aligning with the director’s stance on the show’s intentions and creative liberties.
