In a recent interview, actress Rubina Ashraf defended the web series Barzakh, stating that it highlights societal issues such as homosexuality and child marriage, which are prevalent in Pakistan. She noted that previous dramas, like Adari and Mai Re, also tackled bold and controversial themes, sometimes more daringly than Barzakh.
Ashraf emphasized that dramas reflect societal realities rather than inciting action or disorder. Their role is to raise awareness and address societal problems, prompting necessary corrections. She argued that Barzakh merely portrays existing issues in society, such as homosexuality, rather than creating them.

The series, directed by Asim Abbasi and featuring a Pakistani cast, includes two gay male characters and has been well-received by Pakistani audiences.
